Getting Started

🌐

Connect to Your NPU

Go to Settings and enter your NPU's IP address, port, username, and password. Tap 'Test Connection' to verify everything is working.

Connection Status

A green checkmark on the Settings screen means you're connected. If you see an orange warning icon, check your connection settings.

Home

🏠

Areas & Scenes

The Home tab shows your lighting areas. Tap an area to see its scenes. Tap the power button to toggle a scene on or off.

💡

Adjust Brightness

When viewing scenes, tap the brightness icon to adjust individual channel levels within a scene.

Customise Areas

Tap 'Edit' to reorder areas by dragging, or tap an area to change its icon. Configuration users can also rename areas.

✏️

Rename Scenes

Configuration users can long-press a scene name to rename it. Changes are saved directly to the NPU.

Favourites

Add Favourites

Tap '+' to add a favourite. Choose an area, then a scene, and give it a name. Favourites give you quick one-tap access to your most-used scenes.

↕️

Reorder & Edit

Tap 'Edit' to reorder favourites by dragging, rename them with the pencil icon, or delete them.

🎙️

Siri Voice Control

Each favourite is automatically available to Siri. Just say "Hey Siri, run Movie Time in LightScene" (using the favourite's name). You can also set a custom Siri phrase when creating the favourite.

Shortcuts

Create Shortcuts

Shortcuts let you activate or deactivate multiple scenes with a single tap. Tap '+' to create one, then add steps by choosing areas and scenes.

▶️

Run Shortcuts

Tap a shortcut to run all its steps in sequence. Each step activates or deactivates a scene.

🎙️

Siri Voice Control

Shortcuts are also available to Siri. Say "Hey Siri, run Good Night in LightScene" to activate a shortcut by voice.

Siri & Apple Shortcuts

📱

Apple Shortcuts App

Your favourites and shortcuts are registered as App Intents, which means they appear in the Apple Shortcuts app. You can combine them with actions from other apps to build powerful automations.

⚙️

Smart Home Automations

Use the Apple Shortcuts app to trigger your lighting scenes alongside other smart home actions — for example, dim the lights when you start a movie, or turn everything off when you leave home.

Time & Location Triggers

In the Apple Shortcuts app you can set automations that run your LightScene actions at a specific time of day, when you arrive at or leave a location, or based on other device events.

What's On

🔆

Active Scenes

The What's On tab scans all areas and shows which scenes are currently active. Pull down to refresh.

Settings

🔲

Plates

View and rename the physical wall plates connected to your NPU. Only available for configuration users.

☁️

Back Up to iCloud

Turn on 'Back Up to iCloud' to automatically back up your configuration, favourites, and shortcuts after every change. Your password is never included. Only available when iCloud is signed in on the device.

⬇️

Restore from iCloud

If you delete and reinstall the app, tap 'Restore from iCloud' to recover your last backup. The date of the most recent backup is shown next to the button. Your password will need to be re-entered after a restore.

📤

Share Configuration

Export your configuration as a file to share with another device or user via AirDrop or Files. The exported file includes connection settings, favourites, and shortcuts, but never your password.

📥

Import Configuration

When you receive a configuration file via AirDrop, the app will offer to merge it with your existing settings or overwrite them entirely.

🎙️

Re-register with Siri

If your favourites or shortcuts stop appearing in Siri or the Apple Shortcuts app, tap 'Re-register with Siri' in the About section. This re-announces all your actions to the system without needing to delete or reinstall the app.

Tips

👥

User Types

Standard users can control scenes, manage favourites and shortcuts, and customise area icons. Configuration users can additionally rename areas, scenes, and plates on the NPU.

🔒

Security

Your NPU password is stored securely in the iOS Keychain and is never included in exported configuration files or iCloud backups. After restoring from a backup you will need to re-enter your password.
